Crispin Blunt, a mis en garde hier le Royaume-Uni contre l'interdiction du mouvement de résistance palestinien Hamas, affirmant que cela aurait « un terrible effet dissuasif sur l'introduction de quoi que ce soit à Gaza ».
Gaza étant gouvernée par le Hamas, interdire le mouvement signifierait que le gouvernement ne pourrait pas fournir une aide aux millions de Palestiniens dans le besoin à Gaza.
Blunt a également déclaré que le Hamas avait « en vertu du droit international, un droit légal de résister » tout en concédant que les armes utilisées par les Palestiniens étaient « illégales parce qu'elles ne sont pas ciblées et qu'elles ne font pas de distinction ».
« Ma position personnelle est que la solution à deux États est révolue depuis longtemps. En fin de compte, la seule façon de résoudre ce problème est en fait de rassembler les Palestiniens et de faire en sorte qu'ils aient les mêmes droits, mais je crains que cette mesure d'interdiction ne fasse exactement le contraire », a déclaré Blunt lors d'un débat sur la proposition du gouvernement britannique de désigner le Hamas comme « groupe terroriste ».
La semaine dernière, le gouvernement britannique avat annoncé son intention de qualifier le Hamas d'organisation terroriste dans son intégralité, il avait auparavant interdit l'aile militaire du mouvement, les Brigades Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam.

British Member of Parliament, Crispin Blunt, yesterday warned the UK against proscribing the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, saying it will have « a terrible chilling effect on putting anything into Gaza ».
As the besieged enclave is governed by Hamas, banning the movement would mean the government could not deal with it, and therefore could not provide aid to the millions of Palestinians in dire need in Gaza.
Blunt also suggested that Hamas had « under international law, a legal right to resist ». He explained, however, that the weapons used by the Palestinians were « unlawful because they are untargeted and they are indiscriminate ».
« My own personal position is that the two-state solution is long gone. That in the end, the only way this is going to be resolved is actually by the people coming together and us enabling that to happen, helping it to happen, and I fear that this measure today does precisely the opposite, » Blunt said during a debate on the British government's proposal to designate Hamas a « terrorist group ».
Last week the British government announced plans to label Hamas as a terrorist organisation in its entirety, it had previously proscribed the movement's military wing the Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades.
