Unfortunately, President Trump listened to the neocons and Benjamin Netanyahu instead of his MAGA base and other voices of caution as he launched a surprise attack on Iran over the weekend. For the second time in nine months, the US Administration used negotiations with Iran as a cover to launch a pre-planned attack.

Last week's talks produced "progress" according to all sides, with technical teams set to meet this week to work out the details.

It was said in a hagiographic piece about a prominent libertarian who died last year that the two issues that were closest to his heart were the war on drugs and gay rights. And not just gay rights, but trans rights.

Now, as I have written about over a hundred times, the war on drugs is a monstrous evil that has ruined more lives than drugs themselves. The war on drugs-any drugs and all drugs-is incompatible in every way with a libertarian society; that is, a free society.

That I don't have an analysis or insight to offer doesn't mean I don't care. It simply means there are limits on what we know, and what we do know suggests circumspection.

War seems to demand some response-opinion, analysis, insight-lest it seem that we're uncaring or detached from events so consequential. But if there is anything we can say with any certainty about war, it's that nobody outside the inner circle knows anything, and the inner circle's knowledge is partial, contingent, and prone to the interpretive distortions of group-think.

Only the United States could bomb a country, kill its leader, massacre its children, declare the intention to destroy its military and topple its government, and then call that country's retaliation against US military bases "unprovoked".
