Do We Need the State ?

Rousseau was perhaps the first to popularize the fiction now taught in civics classes about how government was created. It holds that men sat down together and rationally thought out the concept of government as a solution to problems that confronted them. The government of the United States was, however, the first to be formed in any way remotely like Rousseau's ideal.
Trading With the Enemy: An American Tradition

During the French and Indian War (1754-1763), Americans continued the great tradition of trading with the enemy, and even more readily than before. As in King George's War, Newport took the lead; other vital centers were New York and Philadelphia. The individualistic Rhode Islanders angrily turned Governor Stephen Hopkins out of office for embroiling Rhode Island in a "foreign" war between England and France.

The mainstream media in the West is committed to portraying the protests in Iran as strictly an internal affair. The people of Iran, so the argument goes, spontaneously rose up against their government because they were in desperate straits due to their leaders' corruption and mismanagement of the economy, as well as their oppressive policies.

"Greenland is part of the war against Russia at sea." - John Helmer
John Helmer makes the point to Nima that in addition to, and perhaps more important than, the military confrontation with Russia and the West in Ukraine, Washington is conducting two other wars against Russia. One is a war to control Russian capital. The other is to control Greenland in order to control the passage in the Arctic.
The Cia's Blatant Lies About Ukraine and Russia... Intentional or Just Trolling Sy Hersh ?

The latest Substack from Sy Hersh is a doozy because it is rife with false claims and propaganda. I have known Sy for 45 years and consider him a dear friend. His latest article is an abomination and, in my opinion, represents a stain on his legacy. I feel like I'm watching a basketball legend who is still trying to play the game, but he can no longer run or shoot the basketball.

When browsing the sports pages of the New York Post, a tabloid hard to find nowadays at even-harder-to-locate newsstands, I always read up on the tail end of some sports hero's interview. I said the tail end because the rest is too embarrassingly banal even for my 7-year-old grandson. The last question is always whom the star would like to have a dream dinner with.

On January 20th, Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney publicly, in a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, broke Canada away from its till-now enslavement to the U.S. Government, and went way beyond saying a very firm "No!" to Trump's demand that Canada become another U.S. state. He explained why he said no, and he invited all of the world's "middle powers" (including the European nations) to organize together to turn this "No!" into an international movement of resistance against te U.S.

The end of IMEC might result in an Emirati-Indian-Israeli bloc formed in opposition to the emerging Saudi-Pakistani-Turkish one.
The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which was envisaged as a game-changing geo-economic megaproject when it was announced in September 2023 at the G20 Summit in Delhi, was abruptly frozen by the Gaza War that broke out a month later and the West Asian War that followed.
Is a Leonine Unity Even Possible ?
Pope Leo is earnest about working for unity within the Church. But can he achieve it by simply dialoguing with all sides?

It's been a little more than eight months since Cardinal Robert Prevost was elevated to Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, and he's still a mystery. There's more we don't know about him than we do know. We can all speculate about how his pontificate will play out, but ultimately we need to realize that no one other than the Holy Spirit really knows (I suspect Pope Leo himself doesn't know!).
