Donald Trump's « Friendly Fascism »

By Charles Burris

July 29, 2026

In his excellent book, As We Go Marching, the great conservative observer John T. Flynn analyzed the "good fascism" of Franklyn Roosevelt's New Deal, comparing and contrasting it with the "bad fascism" of Hitler and Mussolini:

"The test of fascism is not one's rage against the Italian and German war lords. The test is - how many of the essential principles of fascism do you accept and to what extent are you prepared to apply those fascist ideas to American social and economic life ? When you can put your finger on the men or the groups that urge for America the debt-supported state, the autarkical corporative state, the state bent on the socialization of investment and the bureaucratic government of industry and society, the establishment of the institution of militarism as the great glamorous public-works project of the nation and the institution of imperialism under which it proposes to regulate and rule the world and, along with this, proposes to alter the forms of our government to approach as closely as possible the unrestrained, absolute government - then you will know you have located the authentic fascist.

By Larry C. Johnson

July 29, 2026

Last Wednesday all the signs were pointing to a desperate action by the Trump administration to launch a ground operation inside Iran ostensibly to seize enriched nuclear material from an Iranian nuclear research facility. The report from the Wall Street Journal noted that US special ops forces were once again being deployed to the region to carry out a raid on a Hardened Deeply Buried Target (aka HDBT).

The Dupes of War

By Mark Thornton

July 29, 2026

I'm not predicting WWIII; I am certainly not calling for WWIII; I'm doing everything in my power to prevent WWIII and illuminate the causes, risks, and general results of future war. We are in a quasi-war with Russia, with Europe planning to fight. We are at war in the Middle East with no end in sight. We have stolen China's oil source in Venezuela and threatened Denmark with our might.

Us Resumed Aggression Against Iran Only To Demonstrate Its Woeful Incompetence

By Drago Bosnic

July 29, 2026

American aggression against Iran has not only failed to truly degrade Tehran's capabilities (key missile bases and stockpiles remain largely intact after months of fighting), but also exposed how fragile US power becomes when rhetoric about "limitless capacity" finally collides with industrial and political reality. It seems no power in the political West (including the US) has learned anything from the NATO-orchestrated Ukrainian conflict.

Why The Odyssey ?

By Edward Curtin

July 29, 2026

If you spent one to two years when you were 16-17 years old and full of wild physical and sexual energy assiduously translating Homer's The Odyssey from the ancient Greek in little (7"x 4") gray books where you placed your English translation interlineally, trying to get every word precisely right and the syntax flowing for the hawk-eyed inspection of a Greek obsessed Jesuit priest, you too might have felt wounded like Odysseus by a wild boar.

By Paul Dragu
The New American

July 29, 2026

Americans are destroying Flock cameras in illegal acts of protest. As a headline from tech publication Gizmodo eloquently phrased it, "Flock cameras have a people-love-smashing-them problem."

Resistance to the Flock surveillance camera system has been building up since last year. In Suffolk, Virginia, 13 cameras were destroyed from April to October of 2025.

Driving Big Brother

By Charles Hugh Smith

Big Brother is now slouching in the passenger seat, making a mockery of ownership, right to repair and our agency.

Buyers of new vehicles have an odious passenger they are powerless to eject: Big Brother is now slouching in the passenger seat, making a mockery of ownership, right to repair and our agency-control of our lives and what we nominally own.
